Stanford Achievement Test
PA state law requires that the portfolios of homeschool students in grades 3, 5 & 8 include the results of a nationally normed standardized achievement test in reading / language arts and mathematics.  In PA, parents cannot administer these tests to their own children.  The state department of education recognizes ten tests , one of which is the Stanford Achievement Test (SAT).

I plan to administer the SAT to home schooled students in grades 3 through 12 in my home on April 19, 20 & 21, 2004.  Last year, the cost was $41.57 per student ($36.57 to BJU, plus $5 payable to me).  I must receive your completed order form and payment to BJU no later than February 22, 2004.  We expect to receive test results by June 11.

Please call BJU Press at 1 800 945-5731 to have your name and address added to their mailing for the 2004 Home Education Services Catalog or download the order form at www.bjup.com/services/testing/orderinfo.html.  The 2004 edition of the order form might not be available until January or February.

If you are interested in becoming a test administrator through BJU, I would be happy to loan you the instructional materials (2-hour video and accompanying notebook).  There is no other cost, but the authors of the test require that you have a bachelor's degree.

Some districts will test homeschool students with public school students.  Contact your school district in the fall to find out if this will be possible.  They must offer one of the ten state-approved tests (approved for homeschool students) for your child's grade.  Also consider the attitude homeschool students encounter at your particular school district - it could affect your child's test scores.
